Lessons in The Dance

If you have not been so blessed as to dance in Worship in The Body of YHVH, I encourage you to look forward to the day you might! There are great lessons in the dance. Lessons learned on an individual and communal level. Lessons learned about trust and intimacy with YHVH is the midst of others. Let me explain.

When one first enters the circle, he usually has NO training what so ever. You don't know a Miyam (Hebraic dance step) from a Macarena (and pop dance craze of the early 90's). Insecurities are high and you hope that no one else notices how clueless you are! However, when one enters into a dance circle, it is a place of acceptance among YHVH's family. Everyone in that circle has "been there" or "IS there" with you! An atmosphere of grace and love reside (just as they were first shown). Someone, who actually has done it longer leads and encourages those who are new right in the midst of the dance. You quickly find the seasoned dancers to watch and follow. You quickly learn not to follow the others whom are not dancing strongly yet, lest you all end up in a heap! It's awkward and cumbersome. There is no room for pride and arrogance in a worship dance circle. We are humbled and learn to follow. We goof, we stumble and even may spin into the person next to us! But, the circle moves on. We learn we can't dwell on our mistakes, but rather focus on the next move and press in. We learn when is the right time to step in and when is the right time to step out! With lots of practice and diligence, we learn the dance. With devotion and a will to worship and willingness to be transparent in the midst of our family... it gets easier to follow. Those Brothers and Sisters who are more experienced in the dance, may offer to coach you on the side. They are not their to impress people with their skill and experience, but rather want to share the experience with others and consider them as more precious them themselves in the process of worship. Many leaders will simplify the moves for the beginners whenever possible. All this is a beautiful demonstration of the BODY, the family of YHVH. The dance circle is an expression of love. First it seems, to be an expression of love to our fellow man than to YHVH. (Even though we don't realize it!)

If a regular group of people dance together frequently - that too becomes a beautiful picture of our walk together as a family that becomes better in tune with the Spirit which brings us in better tune with one another. It becomes poetry in motion. A group of people stepping in time and flowing together in unison of worship. They have already been through those sloppy mechanics and awkward learning moments. They have already spun into one another and kicked of beat and stumbled. They have already discussed the difference between a Yemenite and a Tchurkasiah (more Hebraic dance moves), but now...they dance effortlessly because the mechanics were worked out. The flesh was overcome and it becomes a very spiritual expression that flows without effort. This only comes from practice, diligence, co-operation and "letting go" of ones self. Sometimes it might come within a song the first time one dances it, if we are following in right tune with the Spirit - what precious moments those are! Other times, (that seem more often) it might take many many sessions of practice and training and guidance to change how we move. In either case, there is no place for discontentment, contention, insecurity, fear, accusation, divisiveness or self preservation in the Worship Dance Circle. This is how YHVH wants us TO BE all the time: Open, willing, listening, watching, loving, cooperating, caring, attentive to others and moving exactly as YHVH leads. Messianic Hebraic Worship Dance is a beautiful shadow picture of the many stages of our walk with Yah, and our spiritual condition. We are called to humble ourselves before Him and others and to MOVE forward for HIS purposes, as a way of life - as a life of worship.
