The Lilly Cupboard, by Shulamith Levey Oppenheim is a sweet, captivating and heart wrenching children's book about a little girl whom her parents sent to the country to live with a Dutch family during the war in an effort to protect her from what they saw happening to Jews where they lived during World War 2.
25 pages, recommended for ages 4-8 (Although I think it is appreciated by all ages!) The illustrations, done by Ronald Himlar are beautiful.
This book helps open conversations about trust, love, bravery, the importance of obedience. Also how sometimes we have to do things that are scary or that we don't want too... just because they are the right things to do. I highly recommend this book. (Even though it IS heart wrenching!)
