Welcome to Home Shalom!

Welcome to Home Shalom and Shalom Farm. We pray your visit here be blessed. We are learning to walk in the Ways (Torah) of our Father YHWH and follow Y'shua, His Messiah until He returns to "set things straight". We call it a "Messi-Life". Our walk is neither tidy nor perfect, but it is filled with passion, devotion and desire to serve our King. We are learning to be humble servants, and to be good stewards of the things that He has entrusted to us: His Word, our marriage, our children, our family, our community, our health, and our farm. Hitch your horse and stay a while--our door is always open!

Watchman on the Walls - Yom Teruah

Ezekial

33:1 The word of YHVH came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.

7 “So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.

Lev 23: 23 And YHVH spake unto Moses, saying,24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto YHVH.

1 Chor 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Halleluyah!

Yom Teruah Video

Preparing for the upcoming Appointed Times:

I would like to share a video with you that was very helpful to us when we were first started learning about the Feasts. It is just a snippet from a video teaching series by Mark Biltz. It is wonderful!

One thing I want to clarify here, is when he called Yom Teruah the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah), He is referring to the Jewish Civil Calendar and tradition of the beginning of Creation. But the Biblical New Year is in the Spring, it begins the month in which Passover is, called Aviv. (As defined by YHVH in Scripture.) It can be confusing...so I wanted to kind of clarify that. This happens a lot with different teachers so it is challenging to learn the difference, but very helpful if you do!

Shabbat Rest for Parents and Children

OK...so you have grown past this whole "is the 7th day Sabbath still relevant" thing. Than you really developed a love of The Day of Rest. Maybe you realized that running around for fellowship with others every week...is not restful; so you have come to the point where you would love to spend some Sabbaths at home quietly and content resting in Him with your family, studying and worshiping...and hey...maybe even a NAP! Or maybe you don't have fellowship in your region and every Shabbat is spent at home alone with your family! BUT your children don't quite understand the beauty of that...because they are children! They are full of energy and exuberance; always looking for new experiences and stimulation. In other words being still is not fun to them! How do we combine the 2?

Doing this is an art, a work in progress as we grow in our walk and as the children grow in maturity and the family dynamic changes through the years. It is actually (surprise surprise) a wonderful "shadow picture" of our relationship with our children and our walk with YHVH. It can be very revealing if we honestly observe its transition and try to be deliberate in its growth!

It is on Shabbat when the rest of "our world" stops. School, work, responsibilities, chores, news, politics, the market place, etc...we can just turn it off for a day and what are we left with? The absolute basics, the things that really matter! YHVH, His Word, worship, Creation, food, our personal family and our adopted (spiritual) family! What a precious gift!!!! Things can not (and SHOULD NOT) ever try to be escaped. These are things which YHVH has provided for us and the other stuff is what we add on. These are things that nourish and build us up...while the other things...they tend to take from us.

When we realized this, we became a little bit more deliberate about how we spend out Shabbats at home. It is easy to pass the day when their is fellowship involved with others. Whether it be in your home or away, the sun sets before you know it...but sometimes before we really find our groove with Shabbats at home alone...they can be very very LONG. The kids can get antsy, the parents can get antsy. The lack of "business" really leaves us in a state of boredom or DIScontentment...this is not an example of His rest, this is an example of us not being used to His rest! If we are honest, I think we would all admit this being a season for us...especially if we enter into this Walk in His ways with pre-exisiting children! (I am going to set aside our OWN issues for this article and focus on the parenting aspects.) What do we do with them???

ALL children take work regardless of their age. Do these things below sound familiar?

Older children: They will kick stones and say, things like "what can I do?", "I'm board" or "Can we do ____?" (Which we know is NOT in the Spirit of Shabbat...and are at a crossroads as to permit it or not.) How about "Are we done yet?".

Younger Children: If left to themselves, they always find extra trouble on Shabbat! Mommy and Daddy have slowed down and are not watching as carefully as normal. They are trying to rest, or studying or talking/sitting together; often talking about things they quite understand. They may fight, they may forget to pick things up, they may wine and fuss, they may even act sick or start "tattling" more than usual. They still need to be given things to do, they still need to be engaged and stimulated...the older kids might have learned how to do that by now, but the little ones (especially if you have a few of them!) really need to be directed constructively throughout the day, like they are through the week.

How do we do this and rest at the same time??? We have experienced all of the things I mentioned above! But it has always been our hearts desire to enjoy the Sabbath in its fullness. We work hard through the week and we are not getting any younger, our responsibilities have only gotten greater. We have come to recognize the beauty of Shabbat and we see that it is a precious gift. He has blessed us so much with His Shabbat...we really love it and look forward to it each week. We want to enjoy it...because HIS work is never done and the other 6 days we WORK.

Here are a few practical - deliberate things we have done to usher Shalom in our home on Shabbats spent at home with family*:

(*Disclaimer - we are in no way suggesting this is the standard way to do Shabbat at home. We are just sharing our journey in the process thus far, in the hopes that it may bless anyone who might want to glean a little something from it.)

These suggestions are in addition to what ever study/worship/prayer times you do WITH the children...which should not be forgotten.

First, Mamma and Pappa discussed and settled what seems to be in line with the purpose of Shabbat. We want this day to be set apart from all others days, because YHVH wants it to be...so we tried to "define that" for our family. We came up with the general list of things I mentioned above; YHVH/Yahshua, His Word, worship, Creation, food, our personal family and our adopted (spiritual) family and of course "rest". So we decided that the things which we did would fit into these categories as rule. We would abstain from things that did not fit these parameters. We also decided to abstain from purchasing and from selling. (Sometimes we have asked for grace in purchasing "necessities" if we are traveling, but we still try to prepare ahead for Shabbat and not to purchase...if we can! That means being sure have a full tank of gas and sufficient food prepared ahead of time for our outing and not to do things which require ticket purchases and such.) Anyway...back on the home front...

It seems fine to enjoy Creation on Shabbat, YHVH did on the first one! We love the outdoors, so if the weather permits, we like to be outside. Leisurely hikes on our property (or at a park), are very common for us on Shabbat. We love to observe His Creation at a slow an leisurely pace. Sitting on the swing outside as the kids play or taking a nap on a blanket/cot/lounger outside it marvelously refreshing! Ma and Pa have wonderful porch rockers we like to sit in and discuss the wonderful things that YHVH is doing in our hearts and minds and the things we witness in our childrens'. On Erev, we like to go out and look at the stars at night. This time of year we get an added light show with the lightening bugs flickering in the fields!

In the morning - we have a premade breakfast (like granola or hot cereal that crocked all night or fruit and muffins) and put food out other food around noon and graze casually through the day and for supper.

We have also put together what we call a "Shabbat Tub". It is a Rubbermade tub (or 2) of items which we have chosen ahead of time for things to do on Shabbat. We like to do as the spirit leads as a rule, but this will often times run into in depth study for the adults and we want the smaller kids to enjoy Shabbat too, and not be board to tears by content that is way over their heads... This tub especially comes in handy while some (but not all) are napping or when guests come over, or on rainy days. Its contents vary. We switch it out every so often (Depending on how often we use it. We may not use it for months, or we may use it every week for a month!) The tub contains things like bible story books, Study tools, Hebrew related items, Bible Puzzles, Bible Figurines, Bible Games, Reminder lists of Bible Games (like Bible Charades or Worship songs), bible videos, Music, Worship Videos, etc...

Shabbat is also a great time to spend practic music/instruments for worship and to dance together! Our kids do this regularly through the week by mommy's instruction as a part of "school" but it is often something, mommy and daddy will put off! (We are -suppose to be- learning instraments too!)

We would love to hear some of things YOU do!

Learning from Counting the Omer

Counting the Omer has always been a real blessing for me. It is so easy to dismiss, but I think that is part of the reason why YHVH blesses us for doing it. It doesn't have a big gathering for all to see us observing it. It is a real test of "remembering" when it is done on a daily basis in the privacy of your own home. There aren't great ceremonies and meals associated with it...it is a shadow picture of the "little things" He calls us to do. Doesn't he remind us in Luke 16 " Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much........” Its so much easier to just look at a calendar for when we can celebrate Shavout and skip that whole daily counting thing...isn't it? But YHVH blesses us greatly in the little things! I think it is just one of His (many tests) of us to see HOW faithful we are. We teach our kids a little phrase "We do the right thing; even when no one is looking." Counting the Omer is a great example of that. Each year what He shows us is different, but He always shows us something. Each year, it happens in a a little different way...its like a custom blessing. He knows just where we are and what we need and what we can "hear", and He meets us right where we are. What an AWSOME Elohim we serve!

On the practical side: He showed me this year that He uses the Omer to teach us new habits...To remind us of new beginnings...to lead us according to His will. He prepares us for further cleansing, service and revelation. He shows me that being transformed into His likeness happens one step at a time. We have witnessed this year by making it a priority to count the Omer every day, at the same time (our evening meal). We say a Hebrew blessing, read a portion of Scripture each day, which we planned ahead and prepared for before Omer started. He is establishing in us a pattern of obedience, diligence and deliberateness. YHVH is a God of order. He reveals Himself time and time again through patterns in the Scriptures, in Creation, and in History of Man. It pleases Him. Our family has a tendency to be incredibly flexible. This is a good trait in many ways when one wants to live in response to the Spirit leading you and hearing that still small voice and being able to roll with it. However, it can also be a detriment of character if it is not balanced with discipline and steady patterns. YHVH trains us to be balanced in both. This past year has been one of "rolling with it". We have had a pregnancy and birth (child #6); have adopted two small children internationally; moved out of state (800 miles mostly by ourselves); My husband has undergone hernia surgery; We have lost two grandparents; we have raised the roof and added a second floor to the new house (mostly done by a friend that traveled 800 miles to help us!) and that is just to name a few things! Regular patterns and things which may represent "stability"as most people know it, have been hard pressed to find in the last year. However, this 'Feast of Weeks', it seems as though YHVH is showing us that He is bringing us in to a new season; that the craziness of last year is coming to an end. We were faithful through it, keeping His Feasts, Watching His Creation Calendar, Studying His Word with passion and consistency, serving others where we could, and maintaining fellowship and encouragement in the Body. However, our Hebrew lessons slipped (all of a sudden English became a priority, among other things, with our adopted girls and family adjustments), we were not able to be consistent with our music worship training, we were undocumented "unschoolers". As we were between states for about 6 months, packing and unpacking the two residences, and living amidst construction, we slept in sleeping bags and bought "store food" and ate out a lot instead of making things from scratch and having organic resources for many things like we normally would. We wanted to be much more deliberate in things and we simply could not do it all...But during this season of counting the Omer, he is reestablishing the last bits of those things for us. In the process of practicing the pattern of counting the Omer, I am seeing many other patterns being established in our daily habits once again. It is a beautiful thing! It reminds me of Ecclesiastes 3 telling us there is a season for everything. We are seeing fruits of last years labor come together, even though it seemed like it was all just "crazy"at the time. The "bonding" relationships with our family doubling; the child training; the construction; our other house just went under agreement and is scheduled for a fast sale; schooling is becoming much more deliberate; the junk food/ eating out; the list goes on an on here too. We are becoming refreshed, revived and renewed for His service. Amen!

Even though we like to do big things for Him...He wants the little things in our lives...while no one is looking. He is glorified in the little things. No matter how tedious or small they may seem, if He tells us to do it, it is not up to us to dismiss, override or make excuses for not applying them...it is simply our job to do it. No matter what life is throwing our way. He is showing us that this is where our heart is most revealed. This is where our true commitment to Him is. Like the parable of the 3 men with the talents (Matt 25: 14-30), the little things matter!!

In "the doing" of the little things He tells us to do, an anointing is released. Yahshua reminds us, if we love Him we will obey His commands. He wants our obedience, it is the fruit of our love. It is greater than sacrifice. (1 Sam 15:22,23) We don't obey with the heart of a rebellious child, who does it because He "has to". No! When we are in His will and of right spirit, we obey out of love, out of a pure desire for unadulterated Holy communion with our Creator trusting HIS terms....it is an amazing thing! It is a precious gift to walk to the rhythm of YHVH! Like a beautiful song, we are in harmony with King of the Universe! What a Divine Romance He has called us into!!! Yes, even the tedious things are glorious in YHVH!

Shabbat is a burden?

A couple of Shabbat's ago, we were visited by a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses. I just capitalized that religion, but I don't know why. I enjoy attempting to see the scriptures from their point of view, just for giggles, but there was a time where I told them that I was just about to vomit.

We were explaining how we could NOT be convinced that YHVH (or JHVH to them) would create , in the Torah commands, such a beautiful expression of who He is, and then suddenly throw most of it out without warning, just after taking the trouble and pain of showing us in the flesh how best to walk it out in the life of Yahshua! These fine folks will eagerly agree that YHVH's principles are eternal, but insist that the words "Forever, Everlasting, Perpetual, and Permanent", specifically in regard to the Torah commands can sometimes mean, "for a time, until I suddenly choose to change my mind, or until it becomes inconvenient".

This came to a head when they told us that the Sabbath was a burden we no longer needed to keep. They anounced this with a tone of liberation, as if we should applaud or dance for joy. While we were used to the "Jesus changed the day" ridiculous argument, and the "choose one day in seven...pick your favorite" argument, the "don't rest at all because resting is a burden" argument is a new one. In fairness, I am sure this is not how they would explain it. I am sure they would say that we should be "resting" in Him every day, not just once a week. After keeping the true Sabbath in the proper spirit for years now, any explanation that views the Sabbath as a burden, or a legalistic requirement, or as an inconvenient obstacle to productivity truly falls on deaf ears. The full command is to "work for six days, and rest on the Seventh", so watering down that rest over the whole week is also patently absurd.

I have a back porch roof left half finished, 3 feet of grass to mow on about 20 acres, a tree half cut down, my home office desk covered by a tarp in a leaky barn...plenty to do. On the Sabbath, however, all of these tasks are far from my heart. By edifying the Sabbath, we are remembering the importance of eternal things, not our list of issues and problems. We are not struggling to find time to squeeze YHVH into our schedule or scheduling 'quality time' with the kids. The Sabbath is a built-in solution to all of these issues, and COMMANDED, because He knows our tendency to reverse the order of the true priorities, or omit them slowly overtime until are lives are left a disaster.

Yesterday, on the Sabbath, Elijah and I went for a walk into the thick uncharted woods on the South West corner of the property. This was an amazing Father and Son experience as we were completely surrounded by bramble, thorns, tightly woven honeysuckle and only a thin deer path as our guide. Jacob made this trip in the Winter and told us of a constant spring running down there. This has since become legend, and the goal of our crusade. We did finally find the PVC pipe that 'Jacob de Leon' had stuck into the spring, plus 2 more deep pools of water further up in the thicket. We both came back covered in Ticks, scratches, and generally itchy. It was awesome.

Shortly after that, we as a whole family took another walk to find medicinal herbs along our mile of road frontage. Just as we were at the end of the road, YHVH fired off a warning shot of thunder, causing us to turn around in time to witness the large black cloud over our house, and begging us to return home. We double-timed it back up the hill, and got there in time to watch the raindrops fall from under our new front porch. A rainbow started across the street. We were able to watch it grow from the very root, slowly up into the sky up to the highest cloud, and down the other side. It was about a 10 minute experience with the kids dancing and cheering on the rainbow from one end to the other. It was awesome.

After dinner, the clouds were still dark and thick. I expected that last night would be the first day of a new month, so I kept watching the sky for the sign of a tiny sliver of the new moon. Despite the cloud cover, YHVH opened up a temporary crack in the cloud cover reveal the visible proof that the new month had begun. I sounded the shofar, while the rest of the family scrambled to grab their rams horns to join me. Just like last month, we had a joyous time, as a family, passing the horns around and worshipping the creator with blast after blast.

As the sun set and as Shabbat was ending, I opened the scriptures and read from PSALM 119, a love song to YHVH thanking him for the commandments. We counted that day as complete by singing a song/blessing/prayer composed by my children concerning the counting of the Omer as we faithfully anticipate Shavout.

So... as I was saying. Anyone who tries to tell me that the Sabbath is a burden may just have to clean vomit off of their shoes. Anyone who feels distant from YHVH should repent of ignoring the simple command to keep the Sabbath. Anyone who feels distant from their family needs to insist that everyone's schedule be PERMANENTLY cleared on this Holy Seventh Day. Anyone who feels burdened by life, a never-ending "to do" list, or even "church activities", needs to remember Yahshua's teaching..."the Sabbath was made for man", and that "He is Lord over the Sabbath". This day is simply a taste of the true rest that Adam enjoyed before screwing it all up, and a down payment of the eternal rest we will enter into after all is restored. Enjoy it! ...And that is an order!

Happy New Year! Shana tova!

Yahshua said his “Yoke was easy and his burden is light”, so why do we create so much trouble for ourselves trying to start the year on the right day? We know YHVH’s months start when the moon is just beginning to reveal itself (or better phrased…as He is revealing it to us). We know that the center of YHVH’s geographical universe is the Land of Israel. We know he wants us to dwell in Unity. So…shouldn’t we all agree that when the moon is first sighted in Israel (or could realistically be sighted with the naked eye if the sky were clear), that would be the ‘head of the year’?

So despite that the moon could have been spotted in California the night before last, it could not have been seen in Israel. Despite that many Hallmark and even ‘Messianic’ calendars had it pre-printed a day early… Despite the fact that Summertown, Tennessee was overcast for full days surrounding the true day…”We calls it as Israel sees it”.

What I love about watching the moon instead of the calendar on the fridge is the object lessons of grace, sovereignty, and community that reveal themselves (or better phrased…as He reveals them to us), when you care enough about HIS day-timer to look. My wife and I have come to understand that YHVH is a master performance artist. He wants us to be deeply impacted by His actions through nature, and our own actions by following His commandments. His people are called to become ‘performance artists’ as well as we attempt to portray His image, acting out His precepts for the world to witness; The ‘nations’ are supposed to be drawn to us, and the Jews are supposed to be jealous of us. Watching the moon and adapting our lives and schedules around His schedule is a perfect example of this peculiar art.

His Sovereignty: “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons and for days and years”. YHVH does not need to see the stars or the moon. Like the Sabbath, they were made for our benefit. How prideful of humanity to ignore these celestial gifts, in favor of our own calendars. Yet, while most of the world seems to be in a hurry to create even more artificial light to block out even the very light from these heavenly bodies (how’s that for Satan’s performance artists), there are those who are using every means necessary to track, anticipate, even “re-live” Biblical events through the lens of astronomy. Obviously the present creation has not yet passed away, so there must be more important events yet to come…all keyed to and revealed through these heavenly signs. The amount of white-out and cross-outs on the calendars of even well-seasoned Messianic believers is a sign of our willingness to adapt to His schedule, not pray He adapts Himself to ours.

His Community: As his set-apart people, we have a responsibility to join together in unity through Him. Since our brethren and sisteren (?) in Israel are the only ones who can confirm the actual sighting of the new moon, we truly rely on them to help the worldwide community set the standard. Like many parts of our restoration to the Torah, without the modern day technology to research the Scriptures, predict the night sky, and instantly connect with one another world wide, we would be stuck relying simply on imperfect tradition, rather than truth. As Daniel prophesied [in those days (these days)],“…many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase." While on-line communities may lack intimacy, they are instramental to the furthering of His Kingdom.

His Grace: The word for “new” as when used in the term “new” moon is really better translated as “renewed” moon…as the moon itself is obviously very old---as evidenced by all the dust. Likewise the same Hebrew word for new in Jeremiah 31:31 “"The time is coming," declares YHVH, when I will make a new [in other words “renew my”] covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, declares YHVH.” The new moon serves as a reminder that even though we blow it consistently with our attempts to mirror Yahshua’s flawlessness, our walk with him is a process. Every day we are transformed a little more…sometimes unnoticed to the naked eye. Even if we inadvertently, yet joyfully blow our shofars on the wrong day, if we are watchful we’ll notice around the time of the full moon that we were a little off and have a chance for a date calibration. His mercies are new every morning, but his grace seems to be renewed every two weeks or so.
With all the focus put upon the first of the Biblical year, it’s worth noting that this day is not an official “appointed time”. There is no commandment to rest, celebrate, or otherwise make a big deal about today. However, the 14th day of this month starts the actual cycle of YHVH’s Feasts, and you can’t count to 14 without starting at 1.

This got me thinking about the reasons that mainstream Christianity has completely ignored His Feasts, and replaced them with man-made holidays and pagan celebrations. As a wise man once said, “he who controls the language controls the conversation”. While contemporary Christians are becoming “seeker sensitive” and dumbing-down Biblical principles to enlarge their congregations, we followers of the true Messiah are still trying to reach our Greek-minded brothers with foreign words like “Pesach” and “Shavuot”. Here are some rebranding suggestions to help open the eyes and hearts of our Lawless friends and family.

Note: These are supposed to be light-hearted, so relax…

Yom Teruah has come!

This past Sunday evening, we sited the New Moon of the 7th Month from our farm in TN. It was a beautiful sight! The sliver was very large and had a hue of red. It was a very dramatic presentation , itawas a colorful sky that was parted for hwat seemd like the special event for those who where looking, it only lasted about 5-10 minutes. We all had a chance to blow the shofars and even had the delightful addition of a trumpet this year as our friend brought his. We were so thankful because it has been raining and over cast here with thick cloud cover for a week. For days in a row, we witnessed the thick gray cloud covered the sky, it seemed VERY unlikely we would sight the moon that would mark the first of YHVH's Fall Feasts and initiate the counting of the other Appointed Times. We go officially by the siting in Jerusalem, but we always try to site it where we are as an act or worship and obediance as we practice what YHVH has taught us to do in His Scriptures. Some day we will see it in the Homeland as it was originally intended. Going through these motions are packed with object lessons, practical and spiritual and we would not trade it for any predertermined Rabbinic dates or decorated pine tree in the world! :-) (No offense intended.)

We wished we had taken a picture of it (especailly since we had a professional photographer in our midst!), but we were so caught up in the moment - it didn't happen.

Does anyone else have moon sitings they would like to share for this special day? I would love to hear them.

Great Homeschool Resources!

I am very excited to announce a new source for great Homeschool resources!

I found myself searching for something a little more structured to help me teach English to my spirited new adopted daughter who just came home from Haiti, 4 weeks ago. She is five, and has learned some English letters in her preschool at the orphanage, but only identifying them and writing some. She doesn't seem to have any understanding that they have their own sounds. She has a very limited attention span. I also realized what I did for my other children would not be so easy to do with her. The only English she knows are the few words she has picked up since she has been here. This is very different from teaching my birth children who had a basic command of the spoken English Language and a vocabulary to connect things to! Not to mention I have been reading them books daily since they we about 6 month old! My newest daughter has not had any of that. My approach would have to be different. Not to mention, I have an active three year old and another adopted daughter who just came home at the same time (the older one's little sister) who is 2 1/2, but behind equivalent to a 1-1 1/2 year old in development. And if that is not enough to add to my challenge...I am pregnant with little lamb number six and am well...a bit queasy these days! :-) My cup runs over and I wouldn't change a thing....but I just realized I needed a little more help than I did before. :-) So...I started searching for some good materials. I found a company whom I think I am going to be VERY pleased with. I just received their materials today. And while this review has NOTHING to do with the new Phonics and Math program I got from them for my 5 and 3 year old....but another book I got at the same time.. the Complete Guide to Celebrating Our Messiah in The Festivals. I have a chance to review the first 186 pages during nap-time today and boy am I excited!!! So excited, that I came down stairs and ordered their Science Curriculum for my older ones (Considering God's Creation) and am hoping to order their two Bible Study/Ancient History Guides (Remembering God's Awesome Acts , and Remembering God's Chosen Children) which cover the first five books of the Bible and I think she has a third in the making. That is... after I talk with my Husband about them I really want Him to see these. (I didn't get a chance to go through the Math and Phonics ones sitting on kitchen counter as I type. I think it's gonna be a long night of browsing tonight after bedtime!) :-)

This book to the left is the size of a phone book and exceeds the only other book I have seen similar to it- BY LEAPS AND BONDS! (almost 700 pages!) It is a priceless tool for families who want to learn/teach about Our God's Appointed Times together! It is newly released. Well done!!

You may recognise some of their things from large distributers like CBD but to check out all their resources go directly to their website:

A Wonderful Teaching about the Bibical Spring Feasts!

It's free, it's audio with notes. This is Mark Biltz a pastor in Washington State. We have learned a lot from his teachings. He is a solid teacher teaching from the orginal languages of the Scriptures. He teaches in context and shares a lot about the traditions of the Passover in this one. He really helps connect Yahweh's plan in the feasts and our place in it as His bride.

You will be richly blessed. Then share it!

Keep in mind the "traditions" are just that, "traditions", they are not commanded like the Feasts. However, they are rich in meaning and worth learning about!

Timing is Everything (Friday, March 27th, 2009)

Happy New Year! (Shanah Tovah!!)

Huh? You heard me. Today, after sundown, marks the first day of the Biblical month of Aviv (“ripe” in Hebrew) which, like all Biblical months, starts upon the sighting of the “new moon”. Biblically speaking, the word for “month” in Hebrew is the same as the word for “new moon”, and is defined as the first visible sliver. In Genesis, the Word says that the Moon was set in the sky to determine times and seasons, why have we let it become simply a decoration? The “ripe” or “Aviv” reference is regarding the state of the barley in Israel, an important element in the Spring Feasts. When the new moon is sighted, and the barley is sufficiently ripe, this is what determines the official first day of the Biblical year. This is not simply Biblical trivia—Watching the moon is the YHVH designed method for keeping track of time, in use from Genesis up to the final destruction of the Temple. Ps 104:19 "He created the moon for His appointed times". The Rabbinical Jewish leaders created a more predictable and man-made system, just as the gentiles did. However, Yahshua himself used the Biblical system for His calendar while He was here in the flesh. If you will stick with me, I will try to show how this timing is still relevant today.

Personally, this coming new moon marks the completion of one full year, for my family and I, of studying and rejoicing in the celebration YHVH’s commanded Feasts. The word “Feasts” does not necessarily mean a pile of food and a huge party—in Hebrew the word is “Mo’adim” and literally means “appointed times”. Imagine YHVH has a huge daily planner (whose pages are running out), and these “Feasts” are days he is particularly interested in. Leviticus 23 describes these seven appointed times in order, and in great detail. Many today think these Feast’s were done away with after Yahshua’s final and perfect sacrifice, but Paul calls these Feasts in Col 2:16-17 “a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” And in Hebrews 10:1 he says the same thing of the entire Law of Moses “For the Law having a shadow of the good things to come…” The seven Feasts of the LORD (note the Scriptures do not say the Feasts of the “Jews”) were not only prophetic for YHVH’s people before the coming of Yahshua, but continue to be shadows of good things that are yet to come. Additionally, they represent the spiritual journey all of us must take as his people (assuming that we are walking with Him daily). I strongly encourage all believers to step outside of the traditions of your denomination or family, and enter into the shadow of the Messiah himself Ps 36:7 “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O YHVH! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.” Amen.

According to Exodus 12, the 10th of Aviv is the day the Passover lamb was chosen, with the actual sacrifice of the lamb occurring in the evening (before sunset) on the 14th of Aviv. It’s no coincidence during the time of the Messiah, the Passover lambs were actually raised in Bethlehem. When Yahshua entered in Jerusalem on “Palm Sunday”, this was actually the 10th of Aviv... the people were rejoicing (whether they knew it or not) for their selection, endorsement, and the setting apart of the Holy Lamb of YHVH. As we shall soon discover, this actually puts “Palm Sunday” on a Saturday the year Yahshua died as the Passover sacrifice. (See Foot Note Below.)

The next scheduled Feast is the weeklong Feast of Unleavened Bread, which occurs on Aviv 15, and actually begins at sundown, typically shortly after the sacrifice of the Passover Lamb and often during the meal where that lamb is eaten. Passover and Unleavened Bread are so closely connected that even the Gospels interchange the phrases “Passover” and “Unleavened Bread” to refer to the entire eight-day period. The commandment is to search and empty your home of all leaven --yeast, baking soda, baking powder, beer (sorry)-- all of which are symbols of sin (the word for “leavening” in Hebrew is the root of the word for “oppression”). What did Yahshua do the first time He entered the temple in John 2:13, the week of preparation for Passover the year before his death? He cleansed the Temple (His Father’s house) with a scourge of cords, and kicked all of the money changers out. Note what He did in Luke 20:45, again, just before Passover...He again purged the leaven from His Father’s house!!! Besides the clear command in Exodus 12, Paul too exhorts us in 1 Cor 7-8, to celebrate Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the same way Yahshua did: “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the Feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” Regardless of the modern Church’s opinion on “The Law of Moses”, why ignore this instruction from Paul?

I am getting ahead of myself….we know Yahshua ended up on the cross before sundown on the 14th, the required time for the lamb to be sacrificed. How did He really spend these final 4 days? Let’s work backwards. The entire 24 hour period before the crucifixion, Yahshua is in the custody of the High Priest and is being dragged around town as they are trying to find someone to determine Him guilty (John 18). According to the laws of Passover in Exodus 12 and Leviticus 23, the lamb must be inspected and declared to be without blemish for it to be worthy of sacrifice. Unknowingly (I love when that happens), the High Priest himself, along with Herod, and Pontius Pilot, were all being used by YHVH to officially declare the Holy Lamb to be found blameless and wrinkle-free. Since, Yahshua obviously spent the entire day of the 14th in custody, then the evening of the 13th must have been the “Last Supper”.

Many people mistakenly believe that the final meal Yahshua spent with His disciples was a Passover “seder”--the meal commanded by Scripture. This is technically possible if you imagine Him eating the Passover at the very beginning of the 14 (sundown on the 13th). However, the Scriptures report Messiah and His disciples reclining during this lengthy meal, when the Torah clearly commands the Passover meal to be eaten standing up, and quickly. John chapters 15, 16, and 17 detail the events and teachings during the final meal. It seems like a leisurely meal with several long and deep discussions, not to mention the washing of all of the disciple’s feet. The only three foods mentioned as requirements for a Passover Feast are unleavened bread, bitter herbs, and lamb (Ex 12:8). Looking closely at the Greek, the bread of the Last Supper is not the word for unleavened bread (as it is in other places), and there is no mention of either of the other two required elements for the fulfillment of the Passover Feast. There seems to be a better explanation for this last meal. Firstly, there is a custom to have a se'udat-mitzvah (graduation celebration) for a Rabbi’s disciples when their discipleship was coming to a close. Additionally, and more interestingly, it turns out that there was a custom amongst the Jews in the Galilean region to have a somber dinner called “seudah maphsehket” on the evening of the 13th of Aviv, in honor and remembrance of the “first born sons” who died in Egypt on the eve of the original Passover. The Hebrew translation of this Feast’s name is “The Last Supper”. Wow. Sounds like a match to me.

If the “last supper” was not the required Passover meal, and if the Messiah did not actually perform the scriptural requirements of the Passover, does that mean He sinned? Seems like a technicality, but let’s briefly take a closer look. As discussed above, the 3 elements of the commandment to celebrate Passover are unleavened (sinless) bread, a blemish-free (sinless) Lamb, and bitter herbs. Obviously, Yahshua Himself is the Bread (John 6:48) and the Lamb (John 1:29). Where do the bitter herbs come in? Since this evening is remembering the time of slavery in Egypt, the rescue from that bondage, and the beginning of the time in the wilderness, the Feast itself is both celebration and lamentation. The bitter taste is a reminder not only of our former bondage, but of the lives of the people we are leaving behind, and the first born that died while we gained our freedom. In John 19:28-30, Yahshua is on the cross, about to die, and says “I Thirst”. What is He given? Sour (bitter) wine. All at once, just as the original shadow picture prophetically painted—the Bread, the Lamb, and bitter taste all come together on the evening of AVIV 14—right on time. He then said “It is finished”, and gave up His Spirit. Furthermore, Exodus 12 requires the lamb’s bones not be broken, as we read in John 19:36 the other men crucified on that day did have their bones broken, but not the bones of the Lamb of YHVH.

One reason most of the disciples were not at the foot of the cross (other than being terrified of being arrested and punished themselves) was because they were eating the Passover meal, likely in the same upper room where Yahshua celebrated with them the night before. This may be why He said in Luke 22:15, “He said to them, ‘I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of YHVH." He was telling them that He would have loved to eat the Passover with them, but He could not (He had other plans that night).

Moving on--A very interesting bubble burster is found in Matt 12:38-40 “Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. But He answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah: For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” The Messiah is obviously predicting (hindsight is 20/20) the details of His resurrection. If the crucifixion happened on “Good Friday” and He was resurrected on “Easter Sunday”, that clearly does not match the predictions of Yahshua Himself. I don’t know about you, but I would rather examine how our calendar and traditions may be misleading, rather than believe that Yahshua was a fraud. How and when did these three days and three nights occur?

The confusion comes with the word “Sabbath” found in the Gospels. We are told of a rush to get Yahshua off the cross and into the tomb before the Sabbath begins. Usually, the word Sabbath referrers to Saturday, the only biblically sanctioned and commanded day of rest, however, the first (and 7th ) days of the weeklong Feast of Unleavened Bread are also considered Sabbaths. These are days of rest, in addition to the weekly day of rest. If you really want to upset your boss, start following the Biblical calendar. There would always be Sabbath starting after sundown after Passover (i.e. the 15th of Aviv), hence the rush to get Him down from the cross, prepared for burial (albeit hastily and clumsily by Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea), and entombed. This Sabbath was the first night and day prophesied in Mathew 12.

The day following that special Sabbath was a regular (non-sabbatical) day that year (Thursday at sunset to Friday at sunset). During this day, the female disciples would have prepared the proper spices and treatments for the Messiah’s body. Knowing fully that Yahshua was not just any man, but not quite understanding His impending resurrection, the women would have spent ALL DAY Friday getting these herbs and salves prepared. After helping my wife create tinctures and salves from scratch, this is easily a full day process. This day was the second full day for Yahshua in the tomb. Friday night marked the start of the weekly Sabbath, and although the women were anxious (can you imagine?) to go to the tomb and properly prepare the body, they would have to wait until the Sabbath was over. The evening of this Sabbath was the end of the 3rd and final day.

There is a third Biblically commanded Feast, called the Feast of First Fruits. This Feast floats a bit during the month of Aviv (Lev 23:11). It occurs at sundown on the day after the weekly Sabbath that follows the first day of Unleavened Bread. Feel free to reread that last sentence. The year Yahshua was crucified, First Fruits occurred at sundown after his Third Day in the Tomb! This Feast celebrates the beginning of the barley harvest, and is the day the farmers would begin to bring in their first fruits to the temple to be blessed. In Matt 27:52-53 “And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” Yahshua was not the only one raised from the dead that day—He was simply the sweetest fruit from the first harvest! 1 Cor 15:20-24 “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
I can’t pass up the point that the Gospel of Mathew clearly says that “saints” who were dead BEFORE Yahshua’s ministry was over were resurrected. This is no small thing. The scriptures say that Yahshua “is THE way and THE truth, and THE life, and no one comes to the Father but through Him.” I completely agree. However, here is clear evidence that those who were faithful and obedient even BEFORE He came in the flesh were saved. These saints were Hebrews, not “Christians”—no Gospels, no epistles, no “Holy Communion”--all they had was trust in YHVH, faithful obedience to the Torah, and a unending belief that the Messiah would someday come! I strongly believe that Yahshua is the Torah made flesh. Those who follow the SPIRIT (not just the letter) of the Torah, are following Yahshua, and probably more closely than most “casual Christians”. The church did not start in the second chapter of Acts! Sorry to rant…now back to the story.

We are told that Mary arrives early (before the sun rose) on the “first day of the week” and finds the tomb empty. This makes perfect sense, since Yahshua was raised by the Father 10 hours or so earlier.
To recap…
· He entered into Jerusalem on Saturday, the 10th of Aviv, as the officially selected Lamb.
· He was crucified on a Wednesday that afternoon, on the 14th of Aviv. The Feast of Passover.
· He was placed in the tomb before sunset, which starts the 15th of Aviv, The Feast of Unleavened Bread (a Sabbath).
· He was risen as the First Fruits of the Resurrection on what we would call Saturday night (the start of First Fruits and the end of the Third Day). As was witessed by the women coming to the tomb shortly before dawn on the first day.

These days of the week and dates line up with the Year 28 CE. This was the very year Yahshua was crucified. Note that if that year was 28 CE, and we know he was killed after he turned 30, even our own Gregorian calendar (created and spread worldwide by the Catholic Church) is off by at least a few years. I think we all just got just a few years older. Sorry about that.

There is still another Feast, commanded in Leviticus 23, called the Feast of Shavuot (the Feast of Weeks). The command is to count 7 weeks (7 sets of 7 days) from the day of First Fruits (First Fruits being the day to begin counting). On the fiftieth day there is a requirement to travel to Jerusalem and visit the Temple for a sacrifice. This Feast remembers the day the Torah was given to the Hebrew people 50 days after they crossed through the Red Sea. This was also the day 3,000 members of Moses tribe were killed for leading the worship of the golden calf! 50 days after First Fruits after Yahshua’s resurrection, the disciples and millions of other Jews from around the region were in Jerusalem as The Law required. Right on schedule, just as the shadow picture prophetically painted, the Holy Spirit was poured out (Acts 2) and 3,000 people were saved. Those ignorant of the Feasts of the Lord call this day “Pentecost” (which simply means “50th Day” in Greek), but as you can see the true and loyal followers of YHVH were in the right place at the right time and were blessed because of their obedience!

Knowing where to be and when to be there all started with ripe barley, and the sighting of the first sliver of the new moon. Isn’t easy to see why Satan would want to disturb our understanding of YHVH’s timing and YHVH’s calendar? What other blessings does he have in store for those who take the time to understand His ways, and are obedient to His Word. The entire time I called myself a follower of Jesus, Easter was always my favorite time of year. When I learned that Palm Sunday was on Saturday, Good Friday was on a Wednesday, and Resurection was actually a fulfillment of a centuries old Hebrew Holiday--one of YHVH’s appointed times, I was forced to change my worldview. “Easter” is named after Ishtar-- a Babylonian Fertility Goddess, who is closely tied to eggs and rabbits (I’ll leave it at that…the actual legend of Ishtar is ancient and horrible and should never have been blended with Yahshua any reason). All of these facts really woke me up to the lies and distortions twisted tightly into our Christian traditions. Why has the church chosen to replace YHVH's Appointed times with new names and traditions NOT AT ALL associated with our Messiah or our Creator's original context and instructions???

For we believers, these Spring Feasts are more than historical remembrances, and prophetic shadow pictures. The Feasts also show a spiritual road map to our walk with our Messiah with the help of His Spirit. Passover marks the beginning of our walk, our repentance, our turning our backs on “Egypt” and trusting Yahweh to lead the way to true freedom. Moses and the Hebrews were baptized at the start of this journey (in the Red Sea), just as we are baptized at the beginning of our walk. We too have trusted in the saving blood of the Sacrificial Lamb and have eaten his flesh, usually after trial and desperation. Unleavened Bread gives us guidance in purging our lives, our houses, our holy temples, of “leaven”. This week is spent breaking multitudes of habits by prayerful self-examination. We fast all food and drink that contain leaven of any kind. First Fruits is about thankfulness—for our new lives, for new beginnings, and the beginnings of the harvest of the Fruits of the Spirit in our lives. Shavuot (Pentecost) marks our real spiritual awakening. We have been on this journey for 2 months now, and are ready for a deeper relationship. The Torah was given to His people at Mt. Sinai on this date, in order that they get to know Him in a deeper more tangible way. The Hebrews said “I DO” collectively to Yahweh’s marriage proposal to be their God, if we would be His people. Shavuot is a wedding anniversary! Therefore on this day, we stay up all night long celebrating and reading scripture, thanking Him not just for His Word, but for the Helper, the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth.

There are 3 more Feasts that occur in the Fall, after the 7th new moon is sighted each year--The Day of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement, and the week of Tabernacles. Like the Spring Feasts, these also project Messianic prophesy. The difference is, these three Feasts are focused on the final harvest and have NOT YET BEEN FULFILLED. Let us learn from the Pharisees and Sadducees whose own traditions blinded them from seeing the Messiah for who he truly was. Let us wake up from our hypnotic trance induced by Church traditions that are based in pagan practice and man’s imagination. Let us long to be in the right place at the right time, like the loyal believers in Jerusalem, as the mighty wind rushed in and tongues of fire rested upon their heads. May we all open our hearts and minds, keep our heads up, synchronize our lives with His calendar...and watch for the moon.

***Note: We have studied this extensivly, but so have thousands of people who have gone before us. We share our conclusions humbly with regards to the EXACT days/years of "Passion Week". The two biggest controversies with scholars are whether Passover was Friday or Wednesday that year and whether His "Last Supper" was a Passover Sedar or not. We can be confident that Yahshua participated in the Passover Supper every year of His life, but this year...this year it would change the world.

Either way, let us be clear: the Feasts of The LORD are all relavent to our walk if we serve the God of Israel. They are HIS and they are an intricate part of His plan. There will always be things to learn from them as we walk them out each year, layer by layer - Yahweh reveals Himself and His plan for us through the Feasts and walking out His calendar as He has taught us to. He tells us in His Word; If we love Him , we will follow His commands (whether we understand them fully or not). Along the way, we trade ways of man for His and we will see more and more and He will be glorified.

Understanding the Bibilcal Calendar

Although we have been walking with YHVH longer, the last 2 years we have been dedicating every possible moment to studying Scriptures and their context (and that continues Praise YHVH!!), we have learned so much about our Creator's Appointed Times, (His Feasts) and Biblical Calendar. As we have not only studied, but walked them out to the best of our ability, He reveals more and more to us. Along the way He has put in our paths, others whom He is doing the same thing with. It is very exciting to watch Him work in this way and to be a part of it!

In the Feasts, He reveals so much of His plan (understanding the Scriptures); So much of His Son; So much of Himself; So much of the Ruach ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit)...that our passion and intimacy increases for Him. It is a beautiful thing, it is one of the many purposes of His appointed times. We are learning to worship Him the ways HE has told us to and His ways are so much higher than ours! We hope to help others whom YHVH is calling, to do the same.

We want to share with you some resources under this label in the blog, called "Biblical Calendar" and post some teachings, practical things here about preparations, and things we are doing and have done, and things we have learned from others along the way too. There is A LOT to learn, and this section will grow, but keep in mind, this will only be a small offering as to all the wonders YHVH will reveal to each of us as we search after His truth and desire to obey His Word. SO....here we go.
