  1. Pamela - I noticed that you use Keepers and Contenders...is that something you do on your own or are you a part of a group that does the program? I have been interested in it for some time now...we do not have anyone interested in doing it with us, so I am thinking about doing it on our own. Any thoughts?

  2. Hi Leah,
Yes, we use it at home as a fun "homeschool" resource. We don't do it in a group. I have heard of a local Christian group forming, but we do no have any interest in doing that sort of thing. We prefer to do things "family style" over "peer style". :-) My daughter shares some things she has done that have been Inspired by Keepers of the Faith at www.TKMClub.blogspot.com . She is also practicing her typing skills and hopes to open her own little blog..which will also be an extention of our homeschool/language/communications skills.

  3. To answewr a couple questions from Crystal "on the side".

We do not have a "Home School" Curriculum plan yet. :-) My oldest turns 13 this year and will be in 8th grade. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. :-) I would like to watch her this next year and pray and see if there is a focus that Yah directs us in.

For our umbrella school we use http://www.homelifeacademy.com/ . I am quite pleased with them. They offer lots of services (which I have not used, but probably will check into at the end of the next school year with High School Questions). But the are very supportive of the parents being in charge and eidify and equip them to do that. I really appreciate that "hands off" way they operate. I have complete freedom and control and do not feel like I have "big brother" over my choulder. Rather I feel like I have an advocate in my corner should I ever run into a conflict with someone who challenges my choice to homeschool. I like that. :-)

This umbrella school thing is new to us since moved to TN...I wasn't so sure about it...but the "concern" is gone now. :-)(For those of you who are unfamiliar, it is one of the ways our state requires us to operate if we home educate our children here.) I hope that helps. :-)

  4. Shalom Pam,

I was looking through your resources and was wondering what you use or how you go about with Character training. How do you use "For Instructions in Righteousness"? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  5. Hello Jennifer,
I am glad for you comment because it has drawn my attention to this page and how it needs to be updated. :-)

Instructions For Righteousness and other resources by Doorposts, are wonderful for topically arranging what Scripture says about many character related things. Once you are familiar with them, you can use them as devotional material or correctional. So if you see a weakness in an area, you may look up those Scriptures and focus discussion and study in those areas. Copywork, memorization, putting the scriptures to song are all ways we help "hide the word" in our hearts to help us to replace the other ways with His. Exactly what or how I use them will vary based on the the need, situation and child. If that makes. It is ALWAYS better to instill this awareness and desire BEFORE things go wrong...so I would encourage that first. However, that is not always he case...so it can also be used to help turn children around too. When used in a "remedy" it is good to remember to do that in love and patience (note to self) and not in a attitude of punishment. Even if one may choose to make it repetitive copy work for the sake of memorization- I would encourage that it be done with an attitude of " hopeful restoration" from the parent over treating it as punishment. We want our children to always see the Word as lamp unto their feet and alight unto their path, that helps them in time of need rather than a not a club correction or a tool of punishment..if that makes sense.

These materials can also be helpful when I am experience issues in my own character! It really is just a list of topically referenced Scripture. The rest is up to us to do. I hope that helps.

Now, I hope to update my homeshul page in the next month. So check back! :-) (Jan 2013)

Blessings to you and your tribe! p

  6. Shalom Pam,

Thank you so much for responding....I have something similar to the Instructions for Righteousness that was given to me and I haven't been able to figure out how to use it. My oldest is 6 and the other two are 4 & 3 .... How could I go about putting a devotional together for my two oldest, more for the oldest.....I have Ben wanting to do something but am lost as to how to put something together for them with just the scripture.....I'm slowly learning how to go to Scripture first......any ideas or instruction would be very helpful......I look forward to the updates to you homespun page! It is always a joy and encouragement when I visit your blog......thank you for sharing your heart, family, and all that our Father is doing in your life.....

    Shalom Alecheim

  7. Jen,
Thanks again for your encouraging words! This sounds like a great post that might help others too! I will try to put a step by step process together of ways I have done it before, along with some references. It will show up as a regular post (fro those who get them via mail, but I will put the link here for people to find it - if they look here.

I am curious what book/tool you have to use; I would like to look it up.

    Much Love, p

  8. Pam,

Thank you for being willing to do that, I am so excited to get some ideas. The resource I have was given to me at a MOPs meeting years ago by a quest speaker who was there. She had developed this for her family. It is a packet that contained 8 sections. They are: disobedience ( disrespect, rude behavior, wrong attitude, fighting, arguing), mistrust I God ( fear, worry, approval of men, etc), sins of the tongue ( lying, judging, criticizing, complaining, wrong & careless words), unlove ( bitterness, hard heart, anger, unforgiving, selfishness, jealousy,) lust of the flesh ( greed, materialism, idolatry, discontent, laziness, mediocrity), love of self ( pride, arrogance, envy, being in control, self pity) holding forth the glory of God, and the wisdom of obedience......those are all the sections and each section just has a bunch of scripture verses....what she did was created a binder with each section in it and she would us it in a number of ways....not like a devotional but more of a go to when the kids where having behavior problems.....they would go the binder and the kids would find the section and she would go through some of the verses with them......I kinda want to use it to do more devotional stuff as opposed to a correction binder.....

  9. Hi! I found your site through Messianic Directory Thank you so much for all your work to bring encouragement. I did have one question When I tried to access Hearts in Training blog it said I had to be invited? How does one go about getting an invitation to a blog? Thanks for your help.

  10. Hello Terri G.,
I know the author if "Hearts in Training" I will try to contact her to see if she has a way to do that. It did not used to be that way. She might be changing some things around - but I was not aware of that. I will write back here when I know more.

    Blessings, pamela

  11. Hi Pamela!
I first want to tell you how grateful I am for your blog. Thank you so very much for everything that you are sharing. You are quite a blessing to this homeschooling mom trying to figure things out with 4 & 5 yr old girls. I was reading through the previous comments here & I am wondering if you ever put together a link as you were talking about in your answer to Jen on Dec. 26, 2012?...about the "step by step process" of using the Instructions in Righteousness book.
Thank you again for all that you are sharing & doing. Many blessings are hoped for you & your beautiful family.
    Shabbot Shalom, Stacey
