Welcome to Home Shalom!

Welcome to Home Shalom and Shalom Farm. We pray your visit here be blessed. We are learning to walk in the Ways (Torah) of our Father YHWH and follow Y'shua, His Messiah until He returns to "set things straight". We call it a "Messi-Life". Our walk is neither tidy nor perfect, but it is filled with passion, devotion and desire to serve our King. We are learning to be humble servants, and to be good stewards of the things that He has entrusted to us: His Word, our marriage, our children, our family, our community, our health, and our farm. Hitch your horse and stay a while--our door is always open!

Epsom Salt - A Homesteader's Friend!

In recent years I have discovered how wonderful Epsom Salt is for so many different ways to heal one's body.  It is inexpensive, readily available and easy to use.  It is soothing as it heals - which makes it a joy to use for patients young and old!  Personally, I have used epson salt to heal and sooth an ingrown toe nail, sore muscles and joints, rashes, bites, fatigue, as a magnesium sulphate supplement and chicken pox.  It is safe (and encouraged) for pregnant and nursing mommas, animals and infants.

One of the things I was most surprised about with using Epsom Salt, was that it does not hurt (but rather soothes) open cuts, wounds and very sore irritated rashes.  I was leery of the idea of "salt in my wound", but the opposite effects is the case with epsom salt.  It is quickly becoming a very common "go to treatment" in our home!  Another thing I was surprised to discover about this amazing mineral is that magnesium helps to regulate the activity of more than 325 enzymes and is essential in orchestrating a number of bodily functions. It aids in calcium absorption and plays a key role in the formation of bones and teeth.

Epsom Salt IS Magnesium sulphate, it is an ESSENTIAL mineral for our bodies.  Some say, the best way to get it into your system is through soaking in water.  This is said to be better than oral supplements as well.  It is really important that we understand the importance of this mineral and it's role in our health. For those who are interested in this topic, I have listed two videos below, by two separate doctors explain the implications of Magnesium deviancy.

Here is a list of just SOME of the things epsom salt is used for:

  1. Face Mask/ Beauty
  2. Acne/blackheads
  3. Hemmorhiods
  4. Detoxing the body
  5. Liver Cleanse
  6. Exfoliant
  7. Cramping
  8. Diabetes
  9. PMS
  10. Stress
  11. Laxative
  12. Drawing Infections/Splinters
  13. Garden Fertilizer
  14. Oily Hair
  15. Oily Skin
  16. Skin Irritations / Rashes
  17. Sore Muscles
  18. Bug Bites
  19. Arthritis / Soar Joints
  20. Chicken Pox
  21. Ingrown Toenail
  22. Reduces Swelling
  23. Condition related to inflammation
  24. Improve absorption of nutrients
  25. Migrains
The visual of a cat swimming around in the bath is an interesting choice for this video...but it is loaded with lots of good information!  :-)

I have heard that Epsom Salt are great for the garden. My friend said it is really good for tomatoes. Here is a little video that talks about Epsom Salt in the garden.

Here are a couple links to some great sites that can give you further information on the benefits and uses of Epsom Salt:

I like to get my Epsom Salt in a bucket and always have it on hand!  I highly recommend it.  I do hope this information is helpful and encourages you in using Epsom Salt more regular and to recognize the importance of Magnesium in out lives and how relevant our lifestyle choices are to our health.

I have used salts since I was a child. I used them when I was running marathons and mt. biking races to soothe sore, overworked muscles. I have also used them for digestive issues. My husband for the longest time thought me to be crazy and refused taking salt baths until he threw out his back while we were in the midst of moving (and I was 9m pregnant) so it was last resort. Now he swears by them and has gone forward and turned many of his friends on to it. They all gave him grief at first (much like he did me) but they've seen and felt the benefits!

I have never bought E- salt in pellets, only loose salt. I found my buckets at Sam's Club. We got a free membership, and I don't expect to continue it - so I will need to stock up or look for another source. I was just wondering if our local farm co-op might carry it...they carry lots of interesting things in bulk (that I am just learning about!).

I love the comment about the bike rider's husband! Doesn't revelation often come that way?! :-)

Another great thing this helps that is not listed but should be #1 on your list is eczema!! People swear by it.....and after using every lotion, cream, ointment, prescription that the drs recommend, Epsom salt baths and compresses for his face is the only thing that had helped! But thank you for all the other conditions we can use this for!
