Welcome to Home Shalom!

Welcome to Home Shalom and Shalom Farm. We pray your visit here be blessed. We are learning to walk in the Ways (Torah) of our Father YHWH and follow Y'shua, His Messiah until He returns to "set things straight". We call it a "Messi-Life". Our walk is neither tidy nor perfect, but it is filled with passion, devotion and desire to serve our King. We are learning to be humble servants, and to be good stewards of the things that He has entrusted to us: His Word, our marriage, our children, our family, our community, our health, and our farm. Hitch your horse and stay a while--our door is always open!

Protestant Church and Sunday Sabbath

In our early faith walk as young adults, we attended Non-Denominational churches in the different places we lived).  We were very zealous and passionate about our faith and active in our church.  We specifically chose Non-Denominational churches, because we were aware of enough of  religious corruption that we did not want to be a part of that and we thought that this choice would protect us from it.  These non-denominational churches claimed to "just follow the Bible" and that is what we wanted to do - right from the start.  Our pastors were upstanding people, who were honest and kind and had fruits hanging off their family tree!  We (thought we) wanted what they had - so to speak.  We were just starting to learn the Bible for ourselves. (It takes time!  It is very big and full living book!  We still consider ourselves students of it today more than 20 years later and we will until we die.)  What we did not realize at first, was the subtle inconsistencies and then contradictions between the doctrine being taught and the Bible as it read.  However, as our maturity and pursuit of truth was growing, and as we studied the Bible and found ourselves in Leadership Positions in our church, things started to change.  This caused us to take more responsibility for our doctrine and caused us to search for answers from questions that came from others (that we never even thought of at that point).  Well...that was about 10 years ago - that this topic of Sabbath rose through our study of Scripture and the Spirit poking at my conscience on the topic.  We didn't truly "get it" fully for couple years after that..because we were  not mature enough in our willingness to submit EVERYTHING to our savior and His ways.  (Even though we sang that we would do that, every Sunday morning!) In spite of this, our Saviour was preparing our hearts and when we were (truly willing), we GOT it!  We took our questions to our pastors and leaders and they gave us all the "usual" arguments for Sunday that sound good to the ignorant, well indoctrinated or casual Christian who acknowledges God because of what God can do for them.  Some even said Saturday is the Sabbath - but "we keep the Lord's Day" because that's when Jesus rose. (Even though Scripture NEVER authorizes such a radical doctrine change.)  They also quoted Scripture out of context to support more replacement theology principals, ever so subtly.  Later when we studied more Scripture in context, and became better students of the Word from the context it was written instead of the context it was being falsely preached - we saw very clearly that they were using apples to prove oranges. As time and study and research went on, we also learned this was very common practice in the protestant church and maybe one of the reasons why we have over 3000+ denominations , yet teach our of the same Bible! The fact is - we were ignorant of the Scriptures (not stupid - but ignorant - there is a difference) and we were indoctrinated incorrectly (as were the people who taught us).  (In other words - we developed our Biblical view from sermons, teachings and doctrines shared from the pulpit and seminaries.  This happened much faster and stronger than our own study habits developed.  As a result it seeded itself in our minds as truth and colored our perspective because our understanding was filtered through the incorrect things we were taught.  We did not know to question the validity of it - these teachers, preachers and servants had been doing this FAR longer than us.  They were more together than us and they were genuine "good people"!  We were not so proud or rebellious to think that we understood it better then them.  We knew that we did not understand this beautiful book, but we WANTED to!!)  We were blind to the truth and happy to be spoon fed the alternative (lies of connivance) unknowingly. However, because we wanted the Lord's Truth - above all;  above our convenience, our church culture, our comfort, our popularity, above our ignorance, etc...the truth was able to penetrate our thick heads and it changed our lives in yet another way.  (Because our lives were sincerely changed in our time in the church - no one can take THAT away from us...No one an take that away from YOU!  Our Savior meets us right where we are and works with us to bring us closer to Him and His truth!!)   "Getting" Sabbath was a door that opened to so much more that we were "missing" in understanding in our "bible believing non- denominational church".  I am so thankful for it!   Eventually we left that church - which also opened another world of discipleship, ministry and service directly with our Savior, that we never knew was possible without a "church covering" as was previously taught.  Our accountability, responsibility and relationship is stronger now.  Davine appointments and assignments happen daily, it is so beautiful to walk in submission and harmony with the Creator the Universe (without the "middle man" in the way).  After some "quite time" of refining alone with our Creator, He has brought us into community to help encourage and assist many other whom He is showing these things.  It is so very exciting to see such revelation happening in the hearts of men, one family at time - yet SO MANY families simultaneously - as he reveals us to one another.

There is a wonderful website that is devoted to sharing this information specifically about Sabbath.  ( I can not know of any of their other doctrine.) It is called SabbathTruth.com .  You can research and confirm all this second party once you know there is a trail to follow!  I highly encourage you do so if you doubt its accuracy or truth.  Please please do your homework!  It  is time to stand accountable for our faith!  Our Father is drawing us nearer to His truth in THIS time for a reason.  May those who have ears to hear, hear!

You may also like to visit our page above - as we try to show the scriptural definition of Sabbath.

Below is a video of some of  that same information we found when we researched church history that shook us out of our ignorance and made us face truth and test our own doctrine.  It really helped us see that the "protestant church"  that we were so sure had it right (even our "safe" non-denominational one) was very different than it was painted in my "protestant church history" studies.  We were actually Protesting Catholics!  We were practicing more unbiblical Catholic doctrines then we knew.  Some of them were shed at the time of "Reformation"...but many still remain as fundamental and foundational for Protestants, even today- yet they are NOT Biblical.  Keeping and excepting the change of the Sabbath Day is one of those (very very important) things that Martin Luther and the other Reformers took with them. This is very important for us to recognize and repent of, if we desire to worship in Truth.

I pray that my God-fearing faithful brothers and sisters who are in these churches (like we were) who seek truth -but are ignorant and are believing and teaching things that are not true to their children and others, are able to humble themselves with teachable hearts and honestly seek the Father on this topic.  May you have the ears to hear this and the courage to do what we are taught to do in the Bible, when we come to a cross road of decision between right and wrong in Our Savior's Eyes.  I know there is a lot to search out and "untangle" when our doctrine is off the mark (we have and continue to test ours own docterine to this day!).  You will see that it is a sticky web when you start - because Sabbath is not the only thing that we brought with us from Catholsism.  However, God is faithful and so very willing and able to show you the way..if you are willing to submit to Him and the truth - and let it transform you.  If you do..you will find yourself stepping into the pages of the Bible and "owning it" like you never ever have before.  Scale will be removed, that you didn't even know existed!

The Sabbath is very important because God says that it is a sign between Him and His people.  (Ezekiel 20:8-25)  He was very  mad at Israel when they ignored it.  It is one of the things that sets us apart from the world.  If it is important to God it should be important to us!

We Love You!

Preaching to the Choir

Last Sunday I was invited to teach a small sunday school class at a local baptist church.   My doctor is a deacon there, and although I'm sure we don't see eye-to-eye on all aspects of our understanding of scripture, he does understand that the roots of our faith are Hebraic.  From time to time he allows me to teach his youth group pretty much whatever I feel led to discuss.  This week, the Father showed me a new approach to discussing the true Sabbath, so I prayed and studied and prepared, only to arrive on Sunday morning to a complete NO SHOW from the youth under his authority.  They didn't know I was coming, so I didn't take it personally, but it was ironic to have most of his 18-24 year old's WORKING on sunday morning instead of going to church.

Well, instead of going home loaded for bear and not firing a shot, he rounded up another group and invited me in to talk to them instead.   I walked in to a full room of ladies, elder's wives I suspect, ranging from 40 to 70 years old.   Nice.   Would I have the courage to share the same lesson with these mature christian women, that I had prepared for the young men?   Turns out I did.

The way I think about the abuse of Sabbath and the Torah in general goes back to a very important verse in 1 Kings.   If you didn't know (THANK YOU www.TorahClass.com !!!!) the books of 1 and 2 Kings originally were one scroll, preceded with 1 and 2 Samuel.  That's a combined 102 "chapters" of one huge scroll called the Scroll of the Kingdoms.   Due to it's size, it was broken into the 4 sections we now have in our Bibles.  If it were left in it's original form it would be the largest book in the entire Bible, and draw much more attention.   At the beginning of the Scroll, Israel would be 12 distinct tribes with no earthly king.   By mid-scroll, we'd see King David ruling over 12 tribes united.   Shortly afterward, we'd read about Israel and Judah becoming separate Kingdoms (hence the name of the scroll) and by the end of the Scroll, both Kingdoms are banished from the Holy Land as punishment for ignoring the instructions in the Torah, especially His instructions regarding worship.  Very powerful.   I admit that in my former, far more boring, life as a mainstream Christian, I would be hard-pressed to give you even the gist of one of the four books, let alone see how they connect as a complete work.

That said, the verse that hits home for me is in 1 Kings Chapter 12.   The context is that Solomon's 700 wives had led him from YHVH, and as punishment the united Kingdom is torn from his hands.   His son, Rehoboam, is allowed to remain as King of Judah (to satisfy YHVH's promise to David's descendants and the House of Judah), while a new Ephraimite King, Jeroboam, is given control over the rest of Israel.  The first thing that Jeroboam does as King is detailed in 1 Kings 12:26-33.

"And Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom will turn back to the house of David. If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the temple of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah."  So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold.  And he said to the people, "You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough.  Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt."  And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.  Then this thing became a sin, for the people went as far as Dan to be before one.  He also made temples on high places and appointed priests from among all the people, who were not of the Levites.  And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he made. And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.  He went up to the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month that he had devised from his own heart. And he instituted a feast for the people of Israel and went up to the altar to make offerings."

To paraphrase, Jeroboam took council because he was afraid of losing his power and his people to Judah.   Judah had Jerusalem, the Temple, and a functioning Levitical priesthood.  The Torah commanded at least three trips to Jerusalem annually, plus all the tithes that were due to the priests.    Jeroboam's remedy was to create his own holy cities, his own feast day (like Sukkot, but 30 days later, closer to modern-day Halloween), and his own non-levitical priesthood.   And following in the pattern of the "golden calf incident" of Exodus 32, he kept the Name of YHVH connected to this unauthorized and unholy religion.   This was not the same as converting to Baal worship, for example.  This was leading his people, 10 tribes of Israelites, into a deadly mixture of man-made religion and true worship.   They were led to believe, being mostly uninformed of Torah Law, that YHVH fully endorsed these improvements to the House of Israel.

At this point, it seemed like I had the attention of my sunday school class.   Nobody seemed to think that  Jeroboam's idea was a very good one.   To underscore how YHVH reacted to this sin, nearly 20 times throughout the rest of the House of Israel's brief history as detailed in 1 and 2 Kings, this "Sin of Jeroboam" is specifically detailed as the reason for Judgement on Israel.   To drive the point home, I reference the story of Jehu, the warrior called by Elisha to "clean house" in Israel (2 Kings 9 and 10).   On a divine mission from YHVH, he kills the King of Israel and the King of Judah (who were related by marriage to Jezebel and her wicked daughter).   He then kills Jezebel herself (she was the daughter of the high priest of Baal in neighboring Sidon).   So far so good.   Then he tricks every single Baal worshiper in Israel to come to a huge Baal party, and kills every single one of them.   Baal worship is now NON-EXISTANT in Israel.   How cool is that?

Here is how the history of Jehu is wrapped up in 2 Kings 10-29-31:

"But Jehu did not turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin--that is, the golden calves that were in Bethel and in Dan.  And the LORD said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel."  But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.  In those days the LORD began to cut off parts of Israel.  Hazael defeated them throughout the territory of Israel."

Even though Jehu was faithful in wiping out the glaring and obvious evil in Israel, he was still misled by Jeroboam's false religious idea's and therefore he and the entire nation were still facing judgement.   This again underscores the danger of forsaking the law of YHVH, especially by changing his Holy Days and methods of worship.   It also should give pause to those of us simply blindly following our religious leaders without reading the instructions for ourselves.

To wrap up my history lesson, I read 2 Kings 17:6-18:

"In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.  And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced.  And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city.  They set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger, and they served idols, of which the LORD had said to them, "You shall not do this."  Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets."  But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the LORD their God. They despised his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after false idols and became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them.  And they abandoned all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made for themselves metal images of two calves; and they made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal.  And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings and used divination and omens and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.  Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. None was left but the tribe of Judah only."

My sunday school class was still with me here, with the exception of one lady who had mostly dozed off. Been there.   Sunday mornings used to be rough.

"So, what does this have to do with us today?", I asked.   I told them that despite the fact that Jesus (yes, I used "Jesus") kept and honored the biblical Sabbath, despite the fact that he specifically taught that nothing would ever change in YHVH's simple instructions (Matt 5:17), despite the fact that Paul says multiple times that he never once taught contrary to the Law of Moses (Acts 25:8), somebody somewhere tricked us into thinking that the 1st day of the week was a "new" holy day for Christians.   Turns out that it's not a mystery, I told them.   I pulled out several quotes from the always sickening but still very obscure Council of Nicea in 32 1 AD, including:

"Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on the Sabbath, but shall work on that day; but the Lord's Day (Sunday) they shall especially honor, and as being Christian, shall, if possible, do no work that day.   If however they are found Judaizing they shall be excommunicated."

and

"On the Venerable Day of the Sun (the sacred day of the Sun-god, Sunday) let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all the workshops be closed.   In the country, however, persons engaged in agriculture may freely and lawfully continue in their pursuits' because it always happens that another day is not so suitable for grain-sowing or for vine-planting; lest by neglecting the proper moment for such operations the bounty of heaven should be lost..."

then I quoted from a 100 year old letter from the Catholic Press:

"Sunday is a Catholic institution, and its claim to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles...from beginning to end of Scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week (Saturday) to the first "Sunday".

At this point, I literally heard the worship music starting right outside the door (the worship pastor is Jewish by the way), and most of these ladies had been patiently sitting through my diatribe when they were supposed to have been up on stage with the worship team.   I begged them for one last quote before we ended:

Cut and pasted from the Southern Baptist Convention's 8th statement of faith:

"The first day of the week is the Lord's Day. It is a Christian institution for regular observance. It commemorates the resurrection of Christ from the dead and should include exercises of worship and spiritual devotion, both public and private. Activities on the Lord's Day should be commensurate with the Christian's conscience under the Lordship of Jesus Christ."

Furthermore, they list Exodus 20:8-11 as their source for this doctrine.   They had been tricked by a sun-worshiping Pope of Rome, into exchanging YHVH's holy day for a false one.  "The Southern Baptists, your very denomination", I said, "has been sinning the same sin as Jeroboam.  The very same sin that caused your ancestors to be banished from the promised land, and removed from the sight of YHVH."

I guess I should have been less surprised at the speed at which they left the room.   The leader of the group, my Doctor's mother, stayed behind to clarify a few points.   She asked me if I thought that worshiping on Sunday was a sin.   I told her that it was the breaking of the true Sabbath that was the sin.   She asked me if breaking that sin fell into the category of Paul's "if you break one you've broken them all" statement.   I told her if you were trying to earn your way to heaven, then yes it would.   In this case, I borrowed a quote from 119 ministries.   "Faith is the root, obedience is the fruit".   She asked how we could expect a man who has to work to pay for food and shelter for his family to take off Saturdays--isn't not providing for his family a sin as well.   I asked her if she would give that same excuse to someone who said they couldn't afford to tithe.   Doesn't holding back that act of obedience actual cause the person to suffer?   Who is this poor guy worshiping and putting his trust in, his employer or YHVH?   Aren't there endless promises of blessing for those who obey?   No wonder he's broke and in this position!

In the end it was hard to tell what sunk in, what was deemed too offensive to hear, and what if any  conversations this encounter may have spawned since then.   I was invited back, and I certain will take them up on their offer.   I thought of two more points that may have shocked them into deeper prayer.

This one at first seems like a non sequitur:  The word for "rainbow" does not exist in the Hebrew language.   The word is simply the same word for BOW, the weapon.   In Genesis, YHVH says he will set his bow down in the clouds as a reminder that he will not destroy man again in a flood.   The "rainbow" then, is YHVH's weapon (imagine rain-drops as arrows), that he will no longer use against us due to our sin.   Hopefully you'll get that vision of a giant bow next time it rains.   It's suddenly much more humbling than it is pretty.   Doesn't that make the international gay rights symbol of a "rainbow flag" especially dangerous and offensive?   Isn't that like pridefully waiving a banner in YHVH's face, using His own symbol of His graceful covenant, and daring him to break his promise to not destroy mankind due to our sinfulness?   Isn't that like trying to poke him in the eye with the flagpole to see how angry you can make him?

Why is that any different than using naming the false Sabbath "The LORD's Day".   Look at the verses that talk about a day already named "The Day of the Lord":

  • Joel 1:15 "Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes."
  • Joel 2:1  "Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; it is near,"
  • Joel 2:11 "The LORD utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the LORD is great and very awesome; who can endure it?"
  • Joel 3:14 "Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision."
How is using His existing ancient title for His day of Judgement as a name for a catholic false Sabbath, a man-made replacement for a Holy sign of His Covenant, any different than the gay rights folks using the rainbow as for their symbol?

Is that any way to show the fear of YHVH?

I'll keep you posted.   I pray we'll get some of these folks to visit us during Sukkot this year.   Baby steps.

Audio Bible

I am recently reminded how precious it is to my spirit and soul to HEAR The Scriptures. There is something about audio that penetrates my soul so deeply. It takes me back to the Mountain as recorded here in Deut 4:9-13:

9 "Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children— 10how on the day that you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, the LORD said to me, 'Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.' 11And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, while the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, wrapped in darkness, cloud, and gloom. 12Then the LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of words, but saw no form; there was only a voice. 13 And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments, and he wrote them on two tablets of stone. 14And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and rules, that you might do them in the land that you are going over to possess.

Maybe I am a little crazy or I am "over spirituallizing" something...but there is something to the spoken Word which is so strong! I can't imagine what it must have been like coming form the very mouth of Yah in person echoing over the mountain...The power it must heald...I can see how the people present were so very fearful of His might to ask Moshe to be their mediator!

I have enjoyed the spoken Word in recorded form from many resources over the years. It is so nice to listen too while I walk along the way. As a momma of 6 (with one now on the way - halleluyah!), I find my hands always full. So I am reminded what a blessing it is to HEAR the Word when my hands and eyes may not be able to hold a Bible or read the lines. When I am not well, it is like being anointed with healing salve all over to convalesce in the midst of the Spoken Word. It is good to go to sleep with it being spoken over me and wake with it still being spoken over me. It is encouragement, edification, correction, conviction and education all rolled into one!
I have purchased different audio Bibles on disc and for download over the years. Some that were maybe a bit too dramatic, and some that were maybe a little bit too dry in delivery for my taste. Yet, I have still been blessed by them, because it is the Living Word! As my knowledge and understanding of Hebrew grows, I am very much looking forward to listening to the Word in Hebrew!! My soul longs to understand His precepts in Hebrew! It is my heart and goal to one day have the Torah memorized. However, until then, in this most recent season, I have discovered a wonderful and FREE resource that I just had to share with you. It is called Faith Comes By Hearing FREE Audio Bibles They have over 500 Bible versions in many many languages (including two choices in Hebrew). They have several English choices in different versions and also in different styles of some versions, some being more dramatic than others. My favorite so far, is ESV Old Testament.

So if you would like to add another dimension to your personal study; your family time in the Word; being ministered too while sick; raising your children up in The Way; Shabbat meditations; blessing the elderly to those who may struggle read...This may be a very useful tool to help you do that.

May Your time in the Scriptures be blessed and draw you closer to The Creator of the Universe and and His Precepts!

In Him,

Sabbath (Poem)

The day, the hour, the moment.... of rest

Sabbath
I let myself drop
Into the heart of trust

Wounded
I lay still
and wait
to be replenished

Anchored
...even as I let go

Tethered
...even as I am free

A Sabbath Poem

from “The Brewing of Soma”–John Greenleaf Whittier

Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard
Beside the Syrian sea
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow thee.

O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with thee
The silence of eternity
Interpreted by love!

Drop thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of thy peace.

The Lord of the Sabbath Let us Praise

The Lord of Sabbath let us praise,
In concert with the blest,
Who, joyful in harmonious lays,
Employ an endless rest.

Thus, Lord, while we remember Thee,
We blest and pious grow;
By hymns of praise we learn to be
Triumphant here below.

On this glad day a brighter scene
Of glory was displayed,
By the eternal Word, than when
This universe was made.

He rises, Who mankind has bought
With grief and pain extreme;
’Twas great to speak the world from naught;
’Twas greater to redeem.

Song ~ Stay at Home (Poem)

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1878

This is one of my favorite poems - ever! Yah revealed it to me when He was training me to Keep my Heart at Home.

Sabbath My Love (Poem)

Sabbath, My Love
greet my love with wine and gladsome lay;
Welcome, thrice welcome, joyous Seventh Day!

Six slaves the weekdays are; I share
With them a round of toil and care,
Yet light the burdens seem, I bear
For your sweet sake, Sabbath, my love!

On the First-day to the accustomed task
I go content, nor reward ask,
Save in your smile, at length, to bask --
Day blessed of God, Sabbath, my love!

Is the Second-day dull, the Third-day unbright?
Hide sun and stars from the Fourth-day's sight?
What need I care, who have your light,
Orb of my life, Sabbath, my love!

The Fifth-day, joyful tidings ring:
"The morrow shall your freedom bring!"
At dawn a slave, at eve a king --
God's table waits, Sabbath, my love!

On the Sixth-day does my cup overflow,
What blissful rest the night shall know,
When, in your arms, my toil and woe
Are all forgotten, Sabbath, my love!

Now it's dusk. With sudden light distilled
From one sweet face, the world is filled;
The tumult of my heart is stilled --
For you have arrived, Sabbath, my love!

Bring fruits and wine, and sing a cheerful lay,
Chant: "Come in peace, O blissful Seventh Day!"

Sabbath is a Sign (Poem)

The Sabbath is a sign
between us and The Divine
A day that's set apart
to examine blushing hearts

A covenant so sweet

holy and sacred retreat
A gift from Him above
that shows unending love

The Sabbath; Holy date
I pray we are not late
Some choose a different time
one that suits them just fine
Yet reveals a heart of stone
one that prefers a way - its own
One that chooses other things
instead of wishes of the King

I know His grace abounds
without it I am unwound
No favor would I see
if not grace was there for me

How do I help my friend
my brother to the end,
see what is meant to be
a sign of destiny?

How do I share with him
the joy from within
when we bend our wounded knee
to share this time with Yah so free?

Do I tell him he is wrong?
Do I turn my face from him?
Do I plead and beg and whine?
Do I tell him its a sin?

I think not these
but rather on my knees
take this special time
and pray hearts refined
That lives be turned in
and minds soon rescind
I pray they tender be
for The Creator and His plea
to set this day apart
raise Him first in the heart
No matter what the cost
Do we forget what HE lost
Only to be close to us
Yet spoiled children make a fuss!

Its with praise and offerings
Shalom and Thanksgiving
that I whisper up this prayer
to my Abba with such care

May Your harvest come soon
May Your people's hearts bloom
with fragrance of Your love
May the fruits fall from Above

I am so thankful to be here
on this precious day so near
A bride waiting for her Groom

May I never dare presume
that Your Word is obsolete
or my salvation so complete
that I shant obey
your plain and sovereign ways
Straying not on my own
with a prideful heart of stone

Rather Abba, keep my nigh
never run the river dry
Keep me close at hand
as I revere your commands
Make me yours through and through
refine me, mold me, shake me too
Turn me inside out-
but never never let me doubt
that Your promises are true

I can always count on You!

Thank you Abba for your precious Shabbat!

Baruch ata YHVH!

Fecal Matters...

I have searched high and low and have yet to find any teachings, “Christian” or “Messianic”, on the deep and important object lesson that is…going to the bathroom. Yes, I am going there. Pamela wanted me to post my thoughts more often, so…between the tasty recipes and helpful hints this blog is widely known for, I am about to broach a topic never preached from any pulpit anywhere at anytime. Feel free to skip to the next post, or at least pre-read this before rushing to print it and read it at the Shabbat table. Here I go.

The other day, I was listening to a “kind-of-Christian” talk radio show, where this subject came up as part of a humorous (O.K. it was hysterical, and no, I won’t link to it) commentary. During the discussion, the hosts said that the Bible had nothing to say on the subject of how and where to go potty, because the “Bible was too classy of a book for that sort of talk”. Oh, how I beg to differ. There are plenty of extremely graphic examples of prophetic words (YHVH’s words expressed through various prophets) that are really shocking (Isaiah 36:12 !), and meant to be so…using terms that would be described as potty language at best. Seriously, from most of our frames of mind, if Mary heard Yeshua say these things, we’d picture her having to wash his mouth out with soap—yet we have to acknowledge that that not only did Mary and Yeshua have to go potty themselves, but that the very natural act was designed into our fleshly bodies…and that YHVH said that “it was good.”

Here is commandment from the Torah on the subject…

“You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. Each of you must have a spade as part of your equipment. Whenever you relieve yourself, dig a hole with the spade and cover the excrement. The camp must be holy, for the LORD your God moves around in your camp to protect you and to defeat your enemies. He must not see any shameful thing among you, or he will turn away from you.” – Deuteronomy 23:12-14

Simple enough. The act of going potty is natural and good, but the byproduct is unholy, shameful, and unclean. It must be buried so the Father Himself doesn’t turn away in disgust. An argument can be made that conveniently bringing our toilets into our own homes, even with modern flushing technology, is not the same thing as walking outside, digging a hole, doing your business in rain or snow, not to mention broad daylight, and burring it yourself with a shovel. Just as humans have done all we can to insulate ourselves from dealing with or even seeing blood…a crucial element of life, we have similarly made this fundamental element of life so mundane that most of us (without various medical problems) don’t even think about it…let alone publicly blog about it.

This complicated biblical procedure seems to me to be an object lesson of the regular recognition and purging of our sins via repentance. Our sin’s are removed from us, and covered…not as a once-and-done thing, but as a part of a regular routine. As a child, in fact, we had to be trained to recognize this unique sensation, and quickly find a grown up to avoid disaster. Now that we are grown ups ourselves, we still feel that sensation--something must be done…sometimes soon, sometimes NOW. Sometimes still it’s too late, and we need to appeal to our Heavenly Father to clean us up, powder our butts, and send us back into the world. We all know some grown ups that are either “full of it”, or even “have a stinky” but do not have the skills or self-awareness to fix their issue. They live a life thinking that their own “stuff” doesn’t stink, and often nobody loves them enough to intervene and show them where the potty is. Or at least hand them a shovel as a hint.

Yeshua actually preached on this topic, but we often get distracted from His point because of the several other life lessons embedded in His language:

“And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” And when he had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Mark 7:14-23

First we have to dismiss the idea that Yeshua’s point was that the dietary laws in The Torah are irrelevant. The line “thus he declared all foods clean” was actual an anonymous scribal notation in the margins of one version of this gospel, that eventually got embedded into the text by some other anonymous copyist. If you are new to this truth and think this is a conspiracy theory, read your own Bible’s notes about why that verse is either in parenthesis, italics, or both. That was far from Yeshua’s point, and far from mine. (Although it ironically shows that there is some man made excrement even in our Scriptures that must be processed and buried outside the camp.)

What started the Messiah’s commentary was the man-made tradition of washing hands before food was eaten. Yeshua was always mindful that His true disciples, then and now, would want to emulate His behavior, and was careful therefore not to endorse these traditions as being at the same level as the Torah commandments. He therefore did not wash his hands (an elaborate ritual) because apparently they were not physically dirty at the time. His parable then was saying that eating food with “ceremonially clean hands” would not stop the formerly tasty food from coming out stinky and nasty. The heart of man is like his stomach. Our hearts produce the nastiest, slinkiest, most detestable things. If we don’t take the time to relieve ourselves in private with The Father, it’s bound to build up and come out publically--either from our mouths (“from the overflow of our hearts the mouth speaks” Luke 6:45) or from the stench that our very lives will eventually produce.

Satan is known as “The Lord of the Flies”. What are flies attracted too? Yep, spiritual poo poo. Pamela and I took a course in “theophostics” years ago, which is a powerful method of getting to the deep source of the trouble in believer’s lives. Theophostics is a fancy way of saying “The light of God”. The idea is to NOT immediately cast out demons when encountered, but to briefly engage them (as Yeshua did) first to find out where the pile of stinky stuff is hidden that is attracting them in the first place. Demons don’t buzz around people who are filled with light, only those with poop hidden in the shadows. Hence Yeshua’s parable…“This is when an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, “I will return to the house I left.” When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. (Luke 11:24-26) Casting out demons, even cleaning out the obvious poop, will not itself cause the flies to stay away for good.
Eventually that house must be filled with truth (Torah) so that more poop will not accumulate.

The entire sacrificial system and tabernacle that YHVH gave to Moses at Mt. Sinai was sort of a spiritual port-a-potty. Now I know I crossed a line with many of you. Seriously though, The Creator of our bodies, souls and spirits knows that we will need to get this spiritual excrement out of our lives. One could argue that this system was temporary and meant simply as a dramatic object lesson. Eventually all of this “covering” of our forefather’s sins, just created a giant, hidden pile of sin that needed to be “buried outside the camp.” Something more permanent was desperately needed as the “Levitical temps” hired to deal with this human need were not authorized to handle that level of collective clean up.

I personally lived out this object lesson last season during Sukkot. I had just purchased a Coleman camping potty, designed for a person or two…complete with a water reservoir for flushing, and a containment tank to eventually dump. We put this into a small private tent in a common area, and let a few select folks know that we had it, as our sites were pretty far from the public bathrooms. We’ll-- wouldn’t you know it, but those public bathrooms tanks filled up that week. A crew had to come in and excavate, leaving the facilities closed. For a time, my little set up was suddenly busy with activity. Before I knew it, the tank was full, and it was up to little old me to clean it out. For the record, I identify with Ephriam not Levi, but I guess in the end we are all called to be priests. This tank was HEAVY, and sloshy, and even though I was trying to be discrete, everybody I ran into on my mission to dump this thing suddenly wanted to strike up a conversation. Eventually the talk would lead to asking, “hey, what are you holding there?” which generally speaking wrapped up the chit chat pretty quickly.

Anyway, collecting and dumping my own stuff is one thing; collecting and dumping my own tribe’s stuff is doable; dumping the whole CAMP’S stuff is really, really, really, gross. I am tempted to describe it all in detail, with my point being to actually make you gag. Believe me, I think I could do it with just a few choice words. But, I’ll leave that to your own imagination. My mind, while in the confined bathroom stall dumping out this mess, went to our Messiah, as the thought of Him bearing all of mankind’s spiritual excrement. It is amazing how living out these object lessons brings us closer to the mind and heart of Messiah. At that moment, I could identify with Him in a way I never had before. Of course, He took it further--He didn’t just bear our sins…He became our sins! He Himself, suddenly stinky with our wretched refuse, was then cut off from The Father. And then, as the Torah commands, He was buried outside the camp. And yes, the Father did what the Levites could never do… He cleaned off His Son, and allowed Him to come out white as snow and smelling like a rose.

So, next time you go into your private place to do your private thing, remember that indeed the Scriptures do have much to say on this subject. Take the Messiah’s advice, “Everything that is secret will be brought out into the open. Everything that is hidden will be uncovered.” (Luke 12:2) Remember, that we are called to “be Holy like He is Holy”, and that when we walk out of our private place, we too smell like a rose in the nose of our Heavenly Father.

Also, next time you hear someone say "Holy ****", you now have an excuse to repeat this sermonette.

Trivia: The Rabbinic notion of “A Sabbath day’s journey” was originally the estimated distance from the door of the Tabernacle to the nearest area “outside the camp”. Thus, the shortest allowable distance one could walk on Shabbat, specifically to relieve themselves, without doing “unnecessary work.” This concept is fully Jewish tradition and has no actual scriptural basis.

The Things We Leave Behind

My Sweet Soul Sista Amy sent this to me today. It was right in line with how the Father has me interceeding in the Spirit for our Michpacha (Family) in YHVH today. I hope it ministers to you.

Be Encouraged

I am sensing a need to encourage my brothers and sisters in Him. May you worship him with a clear conscience and a clean heart this Shabbat.
