Practical incites to preparing for Shabbat:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*When meal planning, I use organic whole food ingredients.
Since meals are such a big part of what I do for my family of 9, it is a real blessing to prepare my meals ahead for Sabbath. One day a week, it is already taken care of! Different people do this differently. Some people will premake but cook or heat their food in a passive way (like crock pot or oven). Others will only heat unheated food. Others will make assemble food on that day (like sandwiches, salad or fruit or cereal).
Challah:
(Challah is a DELICIOUS traditional Sabbath bread made for Friday evening meal that starts Shabbat at Sundown. We always make ours with wheat or spelt flour. Many people use white flour, but we much prefer the whole grain flavor. A simple and steady Challah recipe is all you need...but we have experimented with many and these are some of our favorite tips and variations.)
Erev Shabbat Meals:
"Erev Shabbat" is Hebrew for "entering into Sabbath". It is a special meal that is prepared to "set apart" the coming in of the Sabbath as the sun sets on Friday. It is the most special meal of the week. Extra care is traditionally spent on preparing and presenting this meal. The pace from a very busy week slows to good conversation, good food, and often candle light and wine Challah. Prayers and songs are often song...topics of conversations are set apart for Him. It is the entrance into a weekly "retreat" from daily work and into focused worship.

Pre-made snacks and treats:
*To make-ahead meal prep seem less on Friday, you might consider doubling a couple meals during the week and freezing them. You can pull pre-made frozen meals out of the freezer on Friday and just reheat in an oven or crockpot on the Sabbath.
*If you do not want to make coffee or tea in the morning. you might consider making it ahead on Friday night as the sun goes down and storing it in a thermos.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks you. :)
ReplyDeleteAs a Sabbath keeping Christian I have found out over the years that Jews who have kept the Sabbath for over 2000 years have a lot to teach me and other Sabbath keepers on how to keep the Sabbath. You guys have made my family's sabbath enjoyable in terms of food and other ways to prepare for the Sabbath. My God continue to bless you as you share your wealth of knowledge about YAHWEH.
